Nature

Also nearby is Phoenix’s famous Camelback Mountain, named for the resemblance of its shape to the head and hump of a camel.

A quick 25-minute trip into the Sonoran Desert foothills takes you to the neighboring historical towns of Carefree and Cave Creek, both lying in the shadow of Black Mountain and ringed by the Tonto National Forest. Once desert outposts, the towns now serve as popular launching points for hiking and jeep tours, as well as fun, vibrant places to eat and shop. Also in Phoenix, the Desert Botanical Garden features trails inviting you to view its 21,000 plants, including 139 rare, threatened or endangered species.

Recreation

With the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL, Phoenix Suns of the NBA, and MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix is a major league town. But the fun doesn’t end with spectator sports. The area is also home to some of the most premier golf courses and tennis facilities in the country.
