Sagewood’s Phase 2 Independent Living Expansion Garners First Place Recognition by Senior Housing News Architecture and Design Awards
Sagewood, a Life Plan Community featuring a resort-like setting in northeast Phoenix, continues to add to its award-winning portfolio with the addition of a first-place distinction by the 2021 Senior Housing News Architecture and Design Awards for Independent Living. For the past nine years, Senior Housing News has presented these awards, recognizing cutting-edge design, excellence, and innovation in senior living.
Sagewood’s first-place award comes on the heels of its Phase 2 expansion, which was the largest construction project in the community since 2010. This expansion included a 4-story, 101-unit Independent Living building that added 276,454 SF of one, one bedroom with den, two bedroom and two-bedroom with den apartment homes to the community. Additionally, the upgrades comprised a multitude of amenities, including; activity and game rooms, an art studio, café, formal dining, an indoor-outdoor tapas bar, and lounge, along with an 18-hole championship putting course.
“This is an outstanding honor for the Sagewood community and everyone involved in the Phase 2 expansion. Anytime we are held in such high esteem by our peers is truly gratifying,” said Sagewood Executive Director Stewart Ingram. “This expansion was a considerable investment for Sagewood, but we take immense pride in all aspects of our independent-living resident’s fulfillment as we continue to look forward on ways we can enhance everyone’s experience here.”
Rounding out the Independent Living category were in second place winner, Vista West in Madison, Wisconsin, and in third place recipient, Fountainwood at Lake Houston in Atascocita, Texas.
Vying for top honors, Sagewood was one of the many communities across the country and globe that submitted new construction and renovation projects this year. The 11 other categories that the Senior Housing News Architecture and Design Awards recognized were; Active Adult, Affordable Housing, Assisted Living, Continuing Care Retirement Community/Life Plan Community, CCRC/LPC Lite, Hospice, International, Renovation/Repositioning, Skilled Nursing/Post-Acute Care, Small Footprint, and Stand-alone Memory Care.
