Activities at Sagewood Prompt Passionate Living
Sagewood is all about living life to the fullest and is regarded as one of the country’s most beautiful resort-style senior living communities. Located in Phoenix and nestled on 85 acres with a view of the McDowell Mountain Range, the list of resident activities and amenities run deep. “The ever-popular Casino Night, a three-day sojourn to an exciting locale and concerts in the Rotunda are just a few that keep residents busy,” said Ron Williams, Director of Community Life Services at Sagewood.
Everyone’s a Winner at Casino Night
An annual favorite that’s always enthusiastically attended is Casino Night. Held in the Ironwood Lounge and Rotunda on a Friday evening in July, attendees enjoyed a gourmet dinner of soup, salad and a choice of a dry-aged juicy Duroc pork porterhouse, sautéed skate with rainbow carrots and sunchoke polenta, or a bursting-with-flavor grilled hanger steak and a dessert of choice.
Residents were high rollers and had fun testing their luck with three blackjack tables, a craps table and a roulette wheel. A photo booth, replete with a plethora of themed and outrageous hats, boas, and glasses proved to be a creative outlet for many party goers. “Residents had a ball with the photo props and struck pose after pose,” said Ron. Lively rhythms of jazz were played by the swing band and that, along with a lot of laughter, provided the soundtrack to the festive evening.
Travel the Region
A new activity at Sagewood is a three-day getaway. This year, residents will fly to beautiful San Diego, while future excursions will feature different out of state destinations. This inaugural trip, led by Ron Williams, boasts an itinerary schedule full of famous and interesting hot spots. Sagewood ensures that residents who want to travel and experience new things with their friends are able to do so.
Twelve residents will board the U.S.S. Midway, the longest-serving Navy aircraft carrier of the 20th century, for an unforgettable tour, followed by dinner at Seasons52. Day two includes a trip to historic Balboa Park and all it has to offer: museums, performing arts, gardens, tours, architecture and statues, and of course, food and drink. The last full day of the trip includes an excursion across the bay from downtown San Diego to Coronado Island. The group will take in the boardwalk, shops, enjoy a tour of the legendary Hotel del Coronado and finish the evening with a ferry ride for dinner at Il Fornaio for a fine Italian meal.
“Other popular events include a monthly happy hour hosted by one of the directors of the community as a thank you and opportunity to connect with residents,” said Ron. Musical performances held in the Sagewood Rotunda are a community favorite and always well-attended concerts. Community Life Service Director, Ron, is very engaged with residents to ensure Sagewood’s activities continue to be innovative, creative and top-notch; offerings that never feel stale. Residents complete interest surveys as well as talk with Ron about activities they hear of through word-of-mouth, read about or have a desire to share their own impactful experiences with others. It’s a collaboration that has proven to be quite successful.
